Gordon Kabanuk, President
Gord maintains an independent practice in White Rock, focused primarily on family and criminal law. In addition to his defence practice, Gord often acts as agent for the Provincial Crown before the Review Board of BC on an ad hoc basis and has experience in personal injury plaintiff, defence and other civil litigation work.
Gord has held various portfolios with the SBA over the years including President (2018-19). He currently oversees our website and communications, acts co-chair for the Surrey Court Mental Health Committee, is a member of the organizing committee for the Surrey Inns of Court, and generally acts as a court liaison on behalf of the SBA.
Adam Jantunen, Vice President
Adam has been a Crown Prosecutor with the Surrey Crown Counsel office of the BC Prosecution Service (and its various predecessors) since his call to the bar in 2008. In addition to his work as a trial and front-end prosecutor, he is a member of the BCPS Driving Resource Counsel group and has presented to Crown and police on topics including impaired driving, sexual offences and forensic evidence. He is a member of the SBA’s Social Committee.
Michael Filice, Treasurer
Michael practices in the areas of real estate and commercial lending with Poulsen & Company. Raised in Surrey, Michael has returned to the community to contribute to the growth of his hometown.
Corry Clark, Secretary
Corry, is a Partner in the Surrey office of Fasken where she practices in the areas of civil litigation and arbitration, with an emphasis on commercial, corporate and real estate disputes.
Corry has held a variety of portfolios with the SBA over the years including President from 2017-2018.
Chelsea Dubeau, Past President
Chelsea is an associate with Hamilton Duncan and practices primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, collections, estates and trusts, and insurance defence matters.
In addition to her role as Past President, Chelsea oversees our Membership portfolio and is on the organizing committee for the Surrey Inns of Court.
Tanvir Sanghera, Director at Large
Tanvir practices with the firm of inlet employment law in Port Moody. Born and raised in Surrey, Tanvir has strong ties to our local community.
In addition to previously acting as Secretary, Tanvir is our primary contact for people interesting in proposing, hosting or sponsoring our social events. She also is a member of the organizing committee for the Surrey Inns of Court.
Cheryl Stanley, Director at Large
Cheryl began her career in the Law Courts of England before immigrating to Canada in 1996. Until recently, her practice here in BC consisted entirely of federal prosecution work. She now practices with the Provincial Crown in Surrey.
Cheryl was President of the SBA from 2019-2020 and currently is part of the Annual Westminster County Bar Associations Golf Tournament committee and is co-chair of the organizing committee for the Surrey Inns of Court.
Jason Maynes, Director at Large
Jason is a partner at Panorama Legal LLP. Called to the bar in 2008, he practices in the areas of corporate law, real estate, and wills and estates. In addition to his legal practice, Jason is a current director of the Surrey Board of Trade.
Joshua Krueger, Director at Large
Josh is a partner at the firm of Jaswal & Krueger Criminal Defence Lawyers. He practices primary in criminal law but also assists clients with administrative driving offences. His legal career began in Vancouver but he has been a member of the Surrey Bar Association since 2018 and often can be found in the busy courtrooms of the Surrey Provincial Court.
Josh is the SBA contact for Continuing Professional Development opportunities and oversees the Barrister's Lounge at Surrey Provincial Court.
Kelly Slade-Kerr, Director at Large
Kelly practices in all areas of employment and labour law with HHBG in Surrey, and helps clients navigate difficult workplace issues including wrongful dismissals and cases involving discrimination or harassment.
Junki Hong, Director at Large
Working with KSW Lawyers, Junki focuses on employment law including wrongful dismissals, employment standards, employment contracts and human rights claims. He also advises clients with commercial litigation concerns such shareholder, lease and contractual disputes.
