Cheryl Stanley, President

Cheryl began her career in the Law Courts of England before immigrating to Canada in 1996.   Until recently, her practice here in BC consisted entirely of federal prosecution work.  She now practices with the Provincial Crown in Surrey.  

In addition to her duties as President, Cheryl acts as a court liaison,  oversees the Barrister's Lounge at Surrey Provincial Court, and is part of the annual Westminster County Bar Associations Golf Tournament committee.

Chelsea Dubeau, Vice President

Chelsea is an associate with Hamilton Duncan and practices primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, collections, estates and trusts, and insurance defence matters.  

In addition to acting as VP, Chelsea oversees our Membership portfolio. 

Tanvir Sanghera, Secretary

Tanvir is an associate at Hamilton Duncan where she helps lawyers with a wide range of business, estate and litigation matters.  Having been born and raised in Surrey, Tanvir has strong ties to our local community.

In addition to acting as Secretary, Tanvir  is our primary contact for people interesting in proposing, hosting or sponsoring our social events.

Aaron Burns, Treasurer

Aaron, has his own law practice in South Surrey, focussing primarily on criminal and family Law.   He is also lectures in Criminology at the University of Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, BC.

Gordon Kabanuk, Past President (2018-19)

Gord maintains an independent practice in White Rock, focused primarily on family and criminal law.  In addition to his defence practice, Gord often acts as agent for the Attorney General of BC before the Review Board of British Columbia on an ad hoc basis.  He also has experience in personal injury plaintiff and defence and other civil litigation work.

Gord has held various portfolios with the SBA over the years.  He currently  oversees our website and communications, and acts co-chair for the Surrey Court Mental Health Committee and generally as court liaison on behalf of the SBA. 

Dan Moseley, Director at Large

Dan is a partner with McQuarrie Hunter LLP.  His practice is primarily focused on commercial litigation involving a broad variety of matters such as land/real estate, construction, builder's liens, contracts, joint ventures and shareholder and partnership disputes.  Dan has held various portfolios over the years with the SBA including President from 2017 to 2018.  He is currently a member of the Annual Westminster County Bar Associations Golf Tournament Committee.

Jason Maynes, Director at Large

Jason is a partner at Panorama Legal LLP.  Called to the bar in 2008, he practices in the areas of corporate law, real estate, and wills and estates.  In addition to his legal practice, Jason is a current director of the Surrey Board of Trade.

Greg T. Palm, Director at Large

Greg is a partner at Hamilton Duncan and the head of its civil and commercial litigation practice group.  He has a varied litigation practice that includes commercial disputes, collections and foreclosures, real estate litigation employment and human rights matters and disputes between lawyers and clients in relation to legal fees. 

He is a past president of the Surrey Bar Association and a current member of the CBA’s Provincial Council. 

Christine Purewal, Director at Large

Christine is an associate with Hamilton Duncan practising primarily in the area of insurance defence matters. Having been born in Surrey and completing her articles at a local criminal defence firm, Christine has strong ties to the local community.

Gagan Khosa, Director at Large

Gagan is an associate at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin and advises clients in a wide variety of litigation matters in court and in various alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Gagan primarily assists clients with a wide variety of complex, multi-go liability, banking, construction, insurance, aviation and commercial litigation matters. 

Manjot Cheema, Director at Large

Manjot practices in all areas of employment and human rights law in the workplace with the firm of HHGB Lawyers.   Prior to her current employment, she worked at a mid-sized firm in the Fraser Valley focusing on insurance defence, commercial litigation and employment law.  She participated in the CBA Young Lawyers International Program and worked with UNICEF in Hanoi, Vietnam advocating for the rights of marginalized children.
